The views across the bay were splendid - breakfast and dinner were eaten almost on the beach if you wanted to. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff that we dealt with - this must go down as one of the best holidays ever. Jack and Dinah Walker Date of stay: November 2012 Melbourne, Australia 1 contribution 3 helpful votes This resort is great. We went half board and the breakfast and dinners were great. Good variety of food, but we could only stay 3 nights. The setting is amazing. We walked along the beach to town passed all the other resorts and there is no doubt that the sands has the best outlook. The sunsets at dinner are incredible. Get a dinner spot along the infinity pool at about 6:45 for a spectacular reflection over dinner. The activities are also great, plenty to keep you entertained. The water skiing or wake boarding is included in the price which is amazing. The staff also really get involved in any of the sports like ping pong or beach volleyball, which is great.

On this occasion, as it was out fiftieth wedding anniversary we elected to return to the Indian Ocean but this time to Mauritius. TripAdvisor contributor superlatives in support of the Sands pushed us in their direction. Well, many thanks for all those observations as we had a truly memorable holiday and a truly memorable anniversary. The Sands exceeded our expectations in every respect. Wouldn't bother with a car as the Taxis are just to cheap and convenient and they all work on set rates and return journeys. That is to say if you want to go to Flic en Flac and do some local shopping the reception phones you a taxi which then arrives almost instantly and he then takes you to town and waits for you for an hour whilst you do your shopping and then takes you back all for about 6 quid. If you want you can make arrangements with them to have them for the day and do a tour of the island all at very reasonable cost. Snorkelling off the beach is good and you have a huge area to swim around in which is inside the reef and never more than about 6m deep. Television in the rooms is not so good. Not much in the way of english programmes except an english film channel (dvd). Other than that most of the programming is in french. Don't know why you want football as the season will be over by the time you get there. All in all we had a fabulous time. It was exactly what we wanted, but then again we are in our 50's and weren't looking for lots of nightlife, clubbing or discos.

There is entertainment on at the hotel every evening, live groups, all of whom were good. Made a nice backdrop as we lounged around drinking beers and looking at the wonderful views and being bathed by the warn night airs. God wish I was back there now. Hope this has helped and that you enjoy your holiday Bob

We didn't have many expectations but a clean spacious room, nice beach and good food. We found everything and much more at Sands. Firstly we were greeted at the door by all the staff and the site manager. We were handed fresh wet towels and a glass of sparkly. The staff were ultra smiley, nice and helpful. We were then taken to our room which had a funny smell as soon as we walked in so the lady who took us very quickly spoke to the manager and organised us another room. We waited for 10mins then were taken to our new room and offered a yummy cheese plate and a bottle of wine as an apology for our wait. The hotel s located in an xcellent place, right by a beautiful beach where it's … Date of stay: November 2012 Canterbury 17 contributions 21 helpful votes What an eye opener! The marketing precept that the 'customer is king' was followed to the letter by management and staff at the Sands. We are reasonably well traveled, thanks to business travel and spending the kids inheritance on two or three luxury holidays a year.

We had the most amazing 's the top 5 reasons why. Services: Everything here exceeded our expectations and we wanted for nothing the entire time, in fact we were offered services that until offered we didn't even realise we wanted! We generally like to do a lot of travelling and 'days out' but the facilities and setting meant that we didn't want to leave our sun loungers (which there were plenty) and there were always activities to keep us entertained when we wanted them. Our wedding was organised with ease and great efficiency. Hi Digit Hope this is not to late but I have only just read your post. We stayed at the Sands in Feb 2005. We wanted somewhere quiet to chill out for a couple of weeks and that is exactly what we got. The hotel is great as are the rooms and staff. The setting looking out over Tamarind Bay is beautiful. Mauritius and the people there are wonderfully friendly, never saw anyone who didn't smile at you. Guess if I lived there I would be similarly happy most of the time. We were half board and the food is good with variety every night ranging from buffet style some nights, a la carte other nights an then a mix of both on other nights. You can get daytime snacks at the pool / bar if you want and they are reasonably priced. Drinks at the bar are not exactly cheap but if you are not on a bender every night it doesn't make much difference (we also stocked up at the local supermarket and made sure we always had a couple of cold tinnies in the mini bar in the room - no one seemed to bothered that we weren't using the mini bar contents) Eating locally in the nearby Flic en Flac village is good with some cheap but good Chinese and Pizza places and some local places but we did not try them as we didn't venture out from the hotel in the evening on more than a couple of occassions.
